Youth
Building Tomorrow's Climate Leaders Today
As the next generation to inherit the responsibility of protecting our planet, youth involvement is key to adopting solutions. We believe in empowering the next generation of climate leaders, emboldening them for action in their communities, and showing them how every career can be a climate career. C3 provides high school and college internships, distributes Climate Action Activity Kits to local elementary schools, and collaborates with youth social justice programs to highlight the intersections of climate and justice.

Climate Activity Kits
C3 partners with the Virginia Discovery Museum to deliver Climate Action Kits to public school students in 4th and 5th grade in Albemarle and Charlottesville public schools. Each kit, offered in English and Spanish, provides hands-on learning about climate and energy and directs families to energy efficiency programs that will reduce both emissions and home energy costs. To date, C3 has delivered more than 3,200 kits to area students.
“We are excited to partner with C3 to provide activities that can be shared with students in the classroom and at home. These lessons provide an opportunity for teachers to educate our students about their impact on the environment.”
— Katina Dudley, Lead Science Coach for Albemarle County Public Schools

Teen Internships
C3 hosts interns from local schools each semester to give them experience with different areas of working at a climate nonprofit. The teens get to learn about grants, policy, marketing, and energy audits and learn other meaningful skills through the program. Check out jobs page for our next internship opportunity.
Youth Led Projects
C3's Climate Justice Summer Program worked to build trust and relationships with underserved youth and their families to diversify and grow the climate movement. In 2022 we partnered with the Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) for a 3-week program to study Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI), climate issues, and created a public service announcement (PSA) with the help of our Light House Studio partners. In 2021 we worked with youth to create a Climate Justice mural, depicting the change in average temperatures in Charlottesville from 1895-2018, which you can see from Rose Hill Drive in Charlottesville.
