GBA Members are Moving to Cleaner Transportation!

Members of C3’s Green Business Alliance work tirelessly on their core business, but also on their emission reduction goals. This fall we wanted to highlight some of their most recent accomplishments.

C3’s Green Business Alliance is a group of sixteen Virginia-based businesses who have pledged to reduce their collective greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2025. Launched in May of this year, the Green Business Alliance demonstrates how small and medium-sized businesses can embrace climate leadership and take action in support of local, state, and national goals.

We wanted to highlight what several of our members have been up to recently to promote a cleaner, more energy efficient way of life in our community and beyond!

Tiger Fuels Celebrates New Electric Car Charging

The largest share of our greenhouse emissions locally and across Virginia comes from the transportation sector. On October 1st, The Market at Tiger Fuels, in collaboration with their newly acquired solar company Altenergy, unveiled their first electric vehicle charging station at the Market at Mill Creek on Avon Street Extended. Kudos to this long-standing family-owned business for being the first family-owned and operated fueling station to provide EV infrastructure in Albemarle County. Available to drivers 24 hours a day, the installation of these Chargepoint DC fast chargers will help to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle charging in our community. More and more people are making the switch to all-electric which can slash their transportation emissions by 50% !

Getting Up Close and Personal with Electric Vehicles

On Saturday October 23rd, C3 partnered with Indoor Biotechnologies and the Silk Mills Building to host Charlottesville’s First Annual Electric Vehicle Showcase. Martin Chapman, Founder and President of Indoor Biotechnologies, approached C3 to partner on an event that would “rev up” excitement about EV ownership, “It’s a key element in reducing CO2 emissions and combating climate change… Since that is the most existential threat at the moment, the more people that switch to EVs, the better it’s going to be for the climate and everybody.” The event was supported by AltEnergy, Carter Myers Automotive, and Tiger Fuel Markets.

This community-based effort to promote EV’s gave consumers, families and businesses an up close and personal chance to see a wide range of EV models. Chapman enthusiastically commented, “I think this is likely the widest array of EVs in one place in all of Virginia to date!”

The showcase included the Chevrolet Bolt, Tesla, Nissan Leaf, and the Ford Mustang Mach-e, covering a broad range of price points, performance, and style. Attendees were able to enjoy Brazos Tacos and Bodo’s Bagels while perusing the parking lot, talking with the owners of these vehicles about their experiences with EV’s and the benefits of driving electric.

Conversations buzzed between owners about favorite features of their cars, how they deal with range anxiety, and what convinced them to switch to driving all-electric vehicles. Close to 50 people attended this inaugural event. Martin Chapman and his team hope to do it again in the Spring.

Sigora Solar Amplifies its Dedication to Clean Energy with Fleet Conversion

Sigora Solar is one of the leading solar and energy efficiency companies in the state of Virginia, installing residential solar projects, energy efficiency and battery storage. By bringing an innovative and all-inclusive package to customers, Sigora has helped thousands of families save money on the electric bill, increase their home value, and lower their carbon footprint.

As an important player in the industry, Sigora is equally committed to serving as a leader within the Charlottesville community with their GBA membership and their carbon reduction goals. Extending the reach of Sigora’s services wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of their sales team, so this summer Sigora gave Teslas to the two top selling sales people within the company earlier this year.  This effort marks the start of a larger plan for the company to convert their entire fleet to lower emissions vehicles.

Sigora’s primary sustainability projects are to focus on improving the efficiency of its fleet and developing a detailed five-year Sustainability Plan. These efforts demonstrate Sigora’s dedication to working with others to support the clean energy industry and serving as advocates for the adoption of sustainability initiatives in their local community.
