Community Engagement is Climate Engagement

Don’t miss these opportunities to incorporate climate action into community planning

C3 believes the power to fight climate change resides within our communities. In communities, our lives touch all sectors —  businesses, schools, housing, neighborhoods, and transportation. Similarly, climate also touches every aspect of our community -- our health, our food, our economic well-being, and the affordability of our homes and businesses. Therefore, community issues are climate issues. Whatever decision is at hand, it will impact our climate.

Making decisions with climate in mind requires new ways of thinking. Systemic change will be necessary to ensure that all members of our community are protected from the increasing impacts of climate change.

We need you to add your voice to these important conversations to ensure climate considerations are incorporated. Here are three actions you can take today!

1- Weigh in on these Community Surveys

Albemarle County Transit Expansion Study - This initiative aims to identify opportunities to improve transit service in the Pantops area, Monticello, and the Route 29 Corridor of Albemarle County. The study also presents an opportunity to consider new technologies and innovative service delivery models (such as micro-transit) for the Charlottesville-Albemarle County region. The survey is available in English and Spanish.

Regional Transit Vision for the Charlottesville Area - This collaborative effort led by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) will evaluate transit service in Charlottesville and the surrounding region and establish a clear long-term vision for efficient, equitable, and effective transit service in the region. Ways to engage include:

2- Engage in Charlottesville’s Climate Vulnerability Assessment Now Underway

Climate Vulnerability Assessment  - Assesses potential impacts from climate change and identifies priorities for adaptation. To understand which sectors, assets, and populations might be particularly vulnerable to those changes, the City will rely on the knowledge and experience of government staff and the greater community.

3- Apply to Join Local Boards and Commissions

We need voices for climate in every room where decisions are made. Consider applying to serve on these local boards. The deadline to apply is December 10, 2021.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to advocate for climate by joining C3’s growing list of advocates.
