Chronicles of Climate Action: Crozet Family “Connects” on Climate
The Dellimore Household was a member of “the Safeties” team in Season Three of our Home Energy Challenge. Sarah decided to use the new transit “Crozet Connect” bus to save time and money. Read this and other success stories of climate action chronicled every Friday from now through mid-October!
C3 had another opportunity to work with a group of current and former coworkers lsat season with The Safeties team. The members of this team created friendships while working at PRA Health Sciences and live in neighborhoods across Albemarle County, from Earlysville to Crozet.
The Dellimore household (Chike Dellimore appears in center of team photo), hailing from the Crozet area of Albemarle, quickly got to work identifying climate actions they could take as a family of four with two working adults. They identified actions ranging from keeping the tires inflated in their car (pro tip: maintaining proper tire pressure can increase fuel efficiency by up to 3%) to utilizing public transportation.
Sarah Dellimore decided to venture into public transportation with JAUNT’s Crozet Connect. The Crozet Connect is a commuter service provided by JAUNT that connects East and West Crozet to UVA and Downtown Charlottesville during morning and evening commute times. The bus stop is only a 2-3 minute walk from their neighborhood in Old Trail and didn’t require a change to the family schedule thanks to the frequent and convenient pickup and drop-off times.
The door-to-door travel time was approximately 45 minutes each way and, thanks to the free wifi, Sarah was able to use the time for work and checking social media. In addition to the reduced driving time and avoided wear and tear on the family vehicle, the Dellimore family also saves $15 a week (or over $700 a year) on gas by using public transportation.
And that’s not all – they took a car off the road during high traffic times and reduced local carbon emissions by almost 2,000 lb CO2 annually. A win for all of us!
