About UVA Community Credit Union
On May 1, 1954, a group of 40 University of Virginia hospital administrators and staff held their first meeting to organize what would become the University of Virginia Hospital Employees Credit Union. They believed that by pooling their resources, each member of the Credit Union could have the chance at a better future. Along the way, we changed our name to UVA Community Credit Union to reflect our diverse and expanded field of membership. Today, we now serve individuals who live, work, or attend school in, and any business located in, Virginia’s Central Piedmont and Valley area. Our mission is to work together to strengthen the financial wellness of our members and local communities.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
We want to leave the world a better place than we found it by promoting energy efficiency and clean energy alternatives. To achieve this we have offered programs including PowerSaver Loans, Commercial Cleaning Energy Alternatives Financing, Energy Efficiency Education, and participate in programs like this that create awareness of energy efficiency opportunities. In addition, for many years we sponsored the Better Business Challenge that was organized by C3.
In partnership with Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), City of Charlottesville, and Albemarle County; we received the Energy Pro3 Award for delivering energy savings to homes and businesses in Central Virginia and how these efforts are paving the way for sustained economic growth and prosperity in our region.
We were also recognized by the Virginia Credit Union League and received the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award for green initiatives to help our members save money through energy efficiency practices with the FHA PowerSaver Loan Program.
Our Credit Union makes it a high priority to help our community members find ways to save money and improve the quality of their lives. Our green initiatives help us meet this mission, improve the quality of our local environment, and invest in our area’s economy.
Goals to Accomplish
We regularly look for ways we can support clean energy alternatives in the community. A few ways we can do that in our own business is identify and implement “quick wins” to improve energy usage in our older facilities, such as converting lights from florescent to LED, improving the weatherization in key areas of the building, and enhancing the performance of our HVAC systems.
In addition, we are in the beginning phases of renovating a new headquarters building in Charlottesville. The renovation project will support clean energy alternatives as we evaluate window upgrades and solar options, among other opportunities.
