Welcome UVA Interns!

C3 is growing! The 2021-2022 school year has brought a few new faces to our team, and we are excited to introduce our interns for the upcoming year. We are looking forward to working together with all of this talented group of students in the coming months!

From conducting research on climate policy in Virginia to inspiring local environmental advocacy, we couldn’t meet our mission to create a cleaner planet starting here in our community without them. In addition to our student interns, C3 will be working with a group of Enactus Club members at UVA on communications projects later this year. Read below to get to know our newest team members.

She is passionate about environmental justice issues and hopes to teach others how they can take meaningful action to address climate change in their own lives. At UVA, Emma is a part of Club Field Hockey and the Virginia Alpine Ski & Snowboard Team. In her free time, she loves to be outside, hiking and camping, or attending concerts with her friends.

Paulina “Syd” Kirk, Communications Intern

Syd is a third-year at the University of Virginia from McLean, Virginia, and is majoring in Foreign Affairs and Environments + Sustainability in the Global Studies program. She is specifically interested in exploring the role of politics in environmental collective action problems that lead to climate change as a potential capstone project. At UVA, Syd is very active in her a cappella group, The New Dominions, where she is currently the publicity manager. She is also the apparel and recruitment chairs for Hydra, UVA’s club ultimate frisbee team. In her spare time, Syd loves to hike or be outside, dote on her adorable dog, and annoy anyone who will listen to her spontaneous singing.

Ellie Thatcher, Residential Climate and Equity Intern

Ellie is a third-year student at the University of Virginia and majoring in Global Development Studies in the Middle East and North Africa regions while minoring in the Batten school of Public Policy and Leadership. Ellie is passionate about policy initiatives that form from the ground up and catalyze people to learn more about creating one’s own decisions and initiatives best for themselves and their communities. Ellie stays active in Charlottesville, where she works at the Haven Day Shelter. Ellie is particularly excited about empowering people to better understand their home energy usage and helping them access the necessary resources to enact change. While she isn’t working, she is exercising, cooking creative recipes, or reading online articles!
