Welcome New Interns!

The C3 team is expanding! We are so excited to introduce our new interns for the spring and happy to work with these promising students in the coming months. These students come to us through our partnership with University of Virginia’s Internship Placement Program.

The interns will be performing a variety of tasks and projects, and each have their own unique roles here at C3. Find out more about our newest team members below.

Emmy Deignan

Development Intern

Emmy is a third-year at the University of Virginia from Richmond, Virginia. She is in the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and is double majoring in Environmental Thought and Practice. Emmy has spent time as a Sustainability Advocate at UVA and is very interested in learning about local and large-scale solutions to the climate crisis. She hopes to have a future in shaping policies that limit the use of fossil fuels, promote renewable energy sources, and ensure equitable climate mitigation efforts. In her spare time, Emmy loves to be with friends and family, walk by the nearest river, and make (potentially) delicious food.

Kachisicho Madzimoyo

Policy Intern

Kachisicho is a 4th year environmental science major at the University of Virginia from the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC. He also lived in Atlanta. He gained an interest in environmental science because he’s always found nature fascinating. “Even as a kid, I would watch many deep sea and animal documentaries.” Now his focus is not on the study of nature, but rather the preservation of it through law. Scientists can provide the information and policy makers can use that information to make change. In his spare time, he likes to watch nature videos and ride his electric unicycle.

Jessie Rothfleisch,

Residential Program Intern

Jessie is a third year student in the School of Architecture at UVA, majoring in Urban and Environmental Planning and minoring in Architecture. Jessie is a lifelong Virginian, growing up in Northern Virginia and recently relocating to Richmond. Jessie is interested in the intersection of sustainability, equity, and design in cities. She is excited to learn about different ways to live more sustainably and hopes to empower and inspire others to do the same. Outside of C3 and her studies, she loves to draw and paint, enjoy the outdoors, or go see live music.

Katie Turk

Marketing and Communications Intern

Katie is a third year student at the University of Virginia from Greenwich, Connecticut, who is majoring in Environments & Sustainability in the Global Studies program and Economics. She is greatly interested in how marketing and economics can be used in conjunction with climate action. Katie is also a Marketing Coordinator for the non-profit Forge and a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority at UVA. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors, reading, and hanging out with friends.

The interns are off to a great start this semester with projects and campaigns. Stay updated on C3’s blog and newsletter to see what else they do this spring!
