This summer we want you to get to know our growing team. In this first installment, hear from Claire Habel in this 3-minute video on what she's most excited about and something surprising you might not know about her!

Describe your role at C3.

As C3’s Commercial Program Manager my role is to support businesses that are ready to take action to reduce their climate impact. This can look many different ways. From our Better Business Challenge to the Green Business Alliance, from the Green Schools Network to supporting other nonprofits, C3’s Commercial Program offers a multitude of ways to get your organization involved. Most days, I’m talking directly with businesses about their sustainability plans and helping to craft solutions that are unique to their operations. In the background of my day-to-day, I’m following climate policies that impact the business community and working with emissions data from businesses in our network to identify opportunities to take action.

What is one thing you've done at C3 that you are proud of?

The launch of the Green Business Alliance was a project that took off after years in the making. From gaining initial support and buy-in from leading businesses, to working with our Director of Climate Policy to analyze their emissions data, then coaching businesses to set individual and collective emissions reduction goals - launching the Green Business Alliance was and still is a point of pride for me. The opportunity to work closely with business leaders to enact change in their buildings and operations allows myself and C3 to play out our mission - to elevate climate action, reduce GHG emissions, and celebrate leadership right here in our community.

What do you like most about working at C3?

Our work at C3 really reflects the future we’re advocating for. What I love most about working with this organization is the focus on community and collaboration. We’re willing to bring everyone to the table to explore solutions if they’re willing to join us. By fostering an inclusive climate conversation and building on the strengths of each household, each business, each school, we’re able to support our community in identifying solutions that have a positive impact.

What is something that people might be surprised to learn about you?

Perhaps it is surprising for people to know that I spend a lot of time attending and listening to hip hop cyphers. I love watching a good battle or roast and appreciating the craft. Hip hop culture is centered around community, identity, expression, and rhythm - values that I, too, live for. It's incredible to reflect on your own lived experience while hearing about the experience of others that are divergent from your own. Whatever it is, I think everyone should find something they’re passionate about that puts you in a safe, but slightly uncomfortable space, to explore the question of who you are.
