Welcome Latricia Giles
The Community Climate Collaborative (C3) is excited to announce Latricia Giles as their new Residential Climate and Equity Program Manager. Latricia will expand C3’s work to develop equitable climate solutions by leading community outreach and program development at the intersection of climate, housing affordability, and transportation access. She will also provide direct support for homeowners and renters in reducing their carbon footprint, while advancing advocacy efforts on behalf of residents.
Last year, C3’s groundbreaking report, Uncovering Energy Inequity: An Analysis of how Energy Burden is Distributed in Charlottesville, Virginia, found that one in four area households face unsustainable energy costs. Latricia will be working to understand the impact of this inequity and engaging the community in the development of policy solutions.
“We are thrilled to bring Latricia’s talents to Charlottesville. Her expertise will be critical to developing successful programs and policies that can work to alleviate the impacts of climate change on working families and populations of color,” said C3 Executive Director Susan Kruse.
Originally from the Bronx, N.Y., Latricia graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Divinity in 2019 with a Master of Divinity. During her time at Wake Forest, she was a Graduate Hall Director, served as a Campus Minister with the Episcopal Student Fellowship, and provided pastoral care to the students of both Winston-Salem State University and The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Latricia is also a proud graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Sociology.
For the past few years, Latricia has served as a VISTA (Volunteer In Service to America) member with Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, North Carolina, building capacity around economic equity and community engagement, and also served as the VISTA Leader for the Winston-Salem Community Action Coalition.
Latricia told us, “‘Bold Action Starts With Us!’ This headline says it all for me. I am excited to join an organization that is committed to creating and driving bold climate action solutions. I am beyond thrilled to join an organization that is bold in its approaches to shedding light on the impacts of inequity in climate and is willing to take bold steps through advocacy and program creation with intentionality to equity so all members of the community can thrive and have better tomorrows. My family and I are grateful to now call Charlottesville home, and we look forward to taking bold new actions together!”
In her free time, Latricia enjoys traveling the Blue Ridge with her amazing wife Kristan and dog Jax, a good game of pick up basketball, and being a foodie! She will be relocating to Charlottesville, Virginia in the next several weeks.
