Climate change is complex and can seem insurmountable. Can the changes we take in our daily lives actually make a difference?

The answer is, “Yes, they do!” — especially when we take action together.

This October, the Charlottesville Climate Collaborative launches the Home Energy Challenge, a fun, informative, and social way to reduce our collective carbon footprint!

Help us reach 100 households and save 100 tons in 2018 by signing up and taking action!

So how does it work? And how do you join?

People host or attend a Power Party* or compete on their own.

From there, you go to www.cvillechallenge.org to create your household energy profile and enter information about your home and lifestyle. This will give you an idea of your household’s environmental impact.

Next, browse a list of actions you can take to reduce your impact, and commit to one or two to start out. We’ve filled the site with great local resources like local rebate information, tips for energy efficiency, and more.

I lost a ton, ask me how!

As you complete actions, you’ll earn points and “lose carbon weight,” so to speak. Best of all, with the online community dashboard, we can see just how much impact we can create together as a community! You can work individually or in a team of friends or neighbors.

The fall “season” kicks off this Saturday, September 29 at Tomtoberfest. Households have until February 2019 to reduce their overall carbon footprint. Then we will host a celebration of climate action progress! Another season kicks off in January.

Help us reach 100 households and save 100 tons of CO2 in this "Games of Homes”!

Learn more about the Home Energy Challenge this Saturday, September 29 during Tomtoberfest! Meet over 60 local groups working to give back to Charlottesville – including the Charlottesville Climate Collaborative – at Ix Art Park from 12PM to 4PM. We’ll even put your knowledge of household sustainability to the test with our “Climate Action Trivia” interactive game. See you there!
